THE STORY
This bag has a simple icon logo that lives center on the product and comes in a series of colors. The icon is a B that takes the form of a star to represent the name ‘Black Stars’. The name Black Stars relates back to the Ghanaian flag which has a black star in the center. And with the name, each bag color is representative of a cultural aspect of ghana. For example, the yellow bag is named Gold Coast, Ghana’s former name prior to its independence.
THE PROCESS
The ‘Problem’: This E-commerce brand started off with trouble shooting what to do with a simple handbag mockup. I thought of what story this brand could have in order to bring interest to an otherwise plain product.
The ‘Solution’: The solution for bringing interest to this basic mock wasn’t over designing the actual product but bringing interest to design elements surrounding it that promote the bag. Not only that, but in order to bring in variety I also gave the back a story.

HOMEPAGE
The website from black stars takes on a monochromatic feel to keep the focus on the choice of color that comes with these bags. To pair with each color of the bag is imagery that embodies both the color and the name of the back. For example the bag ‘Gold Coast’ is paired with imagery of golden waters to signify the beaches of Ghana.

SOCIAL MEDIA ADs
For Black Stars, social media is about attention. Though the bags appear plain at first, the help of copywriting, repetition, and typography comes in to play to remind shoppers of the true excitement of this bag.

The drama doesn’t stop with everyday bags, when the collection expands with a new color the social media carries a more eccentric feel.

EXPANSION
What’s Next: If I were to expand this project, I would expand it product wise. I would experiment with 3D product design and have my hand at creating different purses, wallets, or any other accessories that would follow suit color wise. And not only that, I would expand on advertisements to include environmentals for promotion of this e-commerce brand.
